A truly special experience. From the moment you step inside, the place envelops you in history and tranquility. Denise (I hope I spelled that right) was delightful from beginning to end: attentive, warm, and with impeccable service. What I bought here will be a lasting memory of our honeymoon. Without a doubt, Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella is a place I'll always want to return to ✨

Visiting Officina Profumo – Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella in Florence felt like stepping into a living Renaissance secret. From the moment I crossed the threshold, I was surrounded by a world of history, craftsmanship, and refined beauty that engages all the senses at once. The scent was the first thing that touched me — subtle, elegant, and layered. It wasn’t just perfume; it felt like a memory in the air. Knowing that this place has existed since 1221, originally created by Dominican monks, made the experience even more magical. You don’t feel like a customer here — you feel like a guest invited into centuries of tradition. The interior is stunning. Frescoed ceilings, dark wooden cabinets, antique glass bottles, and stone floors create an atmosphere more like a museum or a historic library than a shop. I slowly moved from room to room, admiring the details, reading labels, and imagining how these formulas were once prepared by hand for nobility, popes, and royalty. What impressed me most was the calm elegance of everything. There is no pressure to buy, no loud sales talk. The staff were knowledgeable and respectful, happy to explain the history of a fragrance or suggest something based on mood rather than trends. I tested several perfumes and herbal products, each one refined, natural, and beautifully balanced. One of the most enchanting spaces is the former chapel, now part of the boutique. Standing beneath the frescoes while surrounded by delicate aromas was an unforgettable contrast — sacred art meeting earthly senses. It felt intimate, almost meditative. Recommendations for future visitors: Take your time — this is not a quick shopping stop, but an experience. Visit earlier in the day for a quieter, more personal atmosphere. Don’t be afraid to ask questions; the history behind the products is fascinating. Even if you don’t plan to buy, enter and explore — it’s worth it. If you do choose a perfume, let it sit on your skin for a while — these scents reveal themselves slowly. I left Officina Santa Maria Novella feeling inspired, grounded, and deeply connected to Florence’s refined soul. This place is not about fashion or trends — it’s about time, patience, and beauty created with intention. If you want to experience Florence beyond museums and monuments, this is a place you must visit

We had a wonderful time here and absolutely loved all the scents and fragrances. Each one is so unique and it truly feels like you can bring a piece of Florence home with you. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, patiently explaining how the terracotta potpourri works. We would also like to give a special shout out to Georgia, who was exceptionally knowledgeable and engaging while guiding us through the David Hockney meets Beato Angelico exhibition on site. We learned so much about the history of the chapel as well as the work of this prolific contemporary artist. It was immediately clear that Georgia has an art history background, and her passion for the artworks really came through. Thanks to her, we now have a deeper appreciation for the rich culture and history behind what we purchased!

If you look at the map, it's not easy to find.

The oldest pharmacy in Europe. Outside the premises there are pipes that continuously spray perfume. A very pleasant scent. Then you enter inside and well, there is little to say. A feast for the eyes. Wonderful ceilings. A beautiful place that tells the story. On the walls there are paintings of all those who have managed the pharmacy. An absolutely must-see place.
