If you're in Florence, don't miss this hidden gem just a stone's throw from Santa Maria Novella train station. Founded by monks in the 13th century, it's one of the oldest pharmacies in the world still in operation. Upon entering, you'll discover a sumptuous space, somewhere between a museum and a luxury boutique, with rooms decorated with frescoes and antique cabinets. Today, perfumes, soaps, creams, elixirs, and herbal teas are still sold, made according to traditional recipes. Don't miss: Catherine de Medici's eau de cologne, the discreet tea room at the back, and the period window displays. Admission is free, and even if you don't buy anything, the visit is well worth it. Visit during off-peak hours to best enjoy the tranquility of the place.
